This is a letter I sent to my sister Sara that is serving a mission in Washington DC. I figured I could just use it because Its an update from just after I had Jocelyn.
Life for me... WOW, life flies by!!! I mean, it really does! It makes me sad. I am treasuring every single day with our little Jocelyn because I know now that babies are only babies for a blink of an eye. Having her, for some reason, has made me treasure Addysin and Caiden far more than I have. I think its because she reminds me of Addysin as a baby. I forgot that just a few years ago they were just like her, and look at the little kids they have grown into! Its just amazing to me. They have their own personalities, sometimes they're stinkers, but I just love them so much. I had a hard time after Caiden was born. I didn't always love what my job was. Its hard to be a mom, but since having Jocelyn I am obsessed with being a mom. Life is so good for us. I think I am figuring out how to be a good mom to kids. Its very different than babies. I have to listen, and learn to say the right things back. I have fully realized that happiness in relationships comes from good communication. You can do everything else right (love, serve, etc) but if the lines of 2-way communication aren't open then things will not be as great as they could be.
Heres what we've been doing. Once I had Jocelyn (Sep. 13), that was the end of summer for me. The weather was still warm, but I never got outside again because of having a new baby. Up until I had her, the kids and I spent a lot of time outside. Next time, I want to have a baby in the cold months. Fall has been so beautiful, but I never fully enjoy it because I dread winter. When I see the trees change colors I cant help but think "here comes the nasty, ugly, cold winter". Thats the pessimist in me. I just hate being trapped inside January- April. Ok, that was a tangent... sorry. For Halloween, Jessica and I took the kids to the Edwin Markham carnival. Chris met us a little later. The kids had a lot of fun. 1/2 of the reason I wanting to go was for me. I love that school and it brings back memories going in. Jessica looked so great. She was a smurf-ette, Addysin was a barbie princess, and Caiden was Spiderman. I bought their costumes in August when I saw them at Costco. It seemed a little crazy to me. Everyone else thought I was really crazy for buying them so early. Now look. Its already over. Isn't time just NUTS! I really cant wrap my mind around it. On Halloween night, we went to Connell to trick-or-treat with Melissa's family. My kids love going over there. Jessica lent me her 70's outfit. I looked pretty good. I have worn a fro for the past 3 Halloweens. I guess I love a good fro. We had the best Halloween. I love living by family that we can always bum fun off.
Chris has been an assistant coach for the Connell football team again. He LOVES it. I have only been to 2 games. Its too cold. One of the games I went to was to watch Addysin do the performance for the Jr cheer clinic. She was soooo excited to do it, and afterwards she was soooo happy. She did the cheer "2 bits" and a dance. She didn't have the moves memorized, but learned the words. She did as good as the other 4 year olds. It was super cute. The cutest part was her chanting the cheer in the van all the way home, and until 11:00 in her bed when she should have fallen asleep at 9:00! She loves the t-shirt she got. I think its her favorite outfit right now. On Oct 30 Chris blessed Jocelyn. After church we had all the Bleazards, Ellsworths, and Grandma and Grandpa McCullough over for lunch. I invited all the McCulloughs, but none could make it. We would have had an overload of people if everyone I had invited came. I love having parties in this house though. On Sunday its Grandma Bleazard's 90th birthday so we're having a party here at 6. We're not doing dinner, just appetizers and dessert. I'm not eating dinner before because I'm sure we'll have tons of food as usual :) I also offered to mom to have Thanksgiving here because Its more cozy than their shop. She is deciding. The shop is actually pretty cozy though. Mom dug up 90% of her plants and put them in big planter boxes in the shop. Its like a greenhouse! She didn't want to have to start over with small flowers again like this past spring. Everything got so big and beautiful. We'll see if it all survives. Their garage even has flowers in it. I took Emily's senior pictures and a couple for Ashley. I want to learn photography so bad, I just cant find the time to read about it. I have no time. Emily and Ashley have been visiting a lot more. Nobody ever used to come over, so I really LOVE it. I LOVE visitors, as long as its after 10 am. Morning is not a good time for me, in case you haven't witnessed that. I always go to bed really late, but the past couple of months I have been going to bed between midnight and 3am! Most of the time its Jocelyn's fault. Sometimes its my mom in me. I have projects that I want to finish and I cant wind down until its done. Or sometimes I'm just not tired because my body and mind are so used to staying up late.
Bryan helped me rake up leaves in the front yard and I think he is gonna help with the rest. When I say "help", I mean I saw him out there with his 4-wheeler and giant wagon raking away and I went out to help him. He is so great. I get so much help from everyone in the family. I am so lucky to be able to live here. I love the ward too. I always have. I have been building better friendships. I love my calling. I am on the committee for the "extra meetings", aka enrichment. I dont know why we call them extra meetings, it doesn't sound as good. We just did Super Saturday. Thats the 3-hour craft day at the church. It was really fun. I was in charge of 2 projects. I have been redecorating the front room since July. I am basically, finally done. I really love it. We decorated for Christmas on Nov. 6. Chris wanted to do it the day after Halloween, but I wouldn't let him. I was only able to hold him off for 5 days. I love it though. I love the Holidays! Its so fun and warm in our home.
Here are some pictures:
Chris' parents are serving a mission at Camp Zarahemla, up by white pass. When Jocelyn was 2 weeks old, we went up there to stay the night. We have seen them about every other week since they started their mission in September.Cami threw a baby shower for me at Magill's. I forgot to take a picture until just before we left and everyone was gone. Amy and Cami serve with me on the "extra meetings" committe and we've become great friends!
Little cheerleaders. So cute!
